Griff vs Cardiff Away
Team news
I was slightly more confident going into this match, knowing the mighty Bees would definitely come out fighting after last Tuesday's disappointing performance against Luton. The skies were stormy overhead, but on the pitch Brentford thundered forward from the kick-off.
The ball found its way to Luca Racic
After 5 minutes, following a bit of pinball in the box, the ball found its way to Luca Racic, who fired into the back of the net. It was actually a pretty brilliant finish considering he's a centre back! And did you expect the mighty Bees to let up after that? I certainly didn't. The pressure was relentless, the chanting continuous, and some Cardiff fans were even leaving for an early half time cuppa! Of course, this just made the Bees fans even happier. Just minutes later Emiliano Marcondes was cynically brought down on the edge of the box, and up stepped Bryan Mbeumo to whip the free kick over the Cardiff wall into the top corner. The Bees were two up!
After this, the tides started to turn. Cardiff's midfield started to press higher up the pitch, and on 34 minutes Adomah whipped in a smart cross to the back post, where Junior Hoilett headed powerfully past Raya's dive. Reinvigorated, Cardiff kept pushing, while Brentford looked like they just wanted half time to come. The Bluebirds' left back Joe Bennett had an almighty throw on him, which Cardiff used just before half time, finding a grateful Joe Ralls, who nodded into the back of the net. 2-2 at half time!
Chances were harder to come by in the second 45
I wanted the Bees to come out and show Cardiff how good we are in the second half. My Dad gave me a Creme Egg which I scoffed down and that helped cheer me up! After the goal fest of the first half chances were harder to come by in the second 45. The referee was getting a lot of stick from both sets of fans, with controversial decisions and penalty shouts for both teams. Cardiff's big throw in strategy became quite a nuisance for Brentford's defence, and on many occasions, we just couldn't get it awa! It was quite frustrating sometimes. Late on, Josh Dasilva was put through to possibly seal the game, however he lashed at it with his weak foot and blazed it wide. With that chance came the end of the game. The draw meant that it was no win in five for the boys in red & white!
My favourite moment
My favourite moment of the match was... both the goals - Mbeumo's free kick was a screamer!
My man of the match: Rico Henry - never gave up running up and down the left-hand side.
My game rating: 7/10 - so disappointed we let is slip.
